The 70th anniversary of the Kuril landing operation

Kuril landing operation began on the night of 17 to 18 August and ended on 2 September 1945. All were disarmed and captured 50 442 Japanese soldiers and officers, including 4 generals, captured more than 300 guns and mortars, about 1,000 guns, 217 vehicles and tractors. But the main result of the Kuril landing operation — total control of the USSR over all of the Kuril Islands. Southern Sakhalin and the Kurile Islands became the main trophy of the Soviet Union in the war with Japan.
