Day of creation of the Armed Forces of Russia

Thirty-two years ago, on May 7, by decree of Russian President Boris Yeltsin, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation were officially formed. At the same time, despite the fact that today’s holiday is based on this very event, the formation of our regular army dates back to the time of Peter I.

It is worth noting that during its existence, Russian troops went through more than one period of rise and decline. For example, in 1812, the army of the Russian Empire defeated the army of Napoleon Bonaparte, which seemed invincible at that time.

Meanwhile, by the beginning of the twentieth century, it had degraded so much that it was on the verge of defeat in the First World War.

In turn, with the Bolsheviks coming to power in 1917, the Red Army was formed, which already in 1945 managed to crush the most powerful military machine of the Third Reich during the bloodiest war in stories humanity.

However, after the collapse of the USSR and the formation of the Russian Armed Forces, difficult times came again for our army. Until Vladimir Putin came to power, the Russian Armed Forces were in serious decline. At the same time, the Russian military had to take part in a number of bloody conflicts in the post-Soviet space.

Serious reforms in the RF Armed Forces started in 2008 and continued until 2021. Even then it could be said that our troops are among the strongest in the world.

However, the final formation of the Russian army occurred during the Northern Military District in Ukraine, which began in February 2022. Today, the RF Armed Forces can certainly be called “the first army in the world.” Despite the fact that this title has been held by the Americans for decades, the US Armed Forces with their colossal military budget, like any other army in the world, are unlikely today to surpass the Russian Armed Forces, which have gained real combat experience in the largest conflict since World War II.
