The Russian president explained that creation of a single body for overseeing nuclear sector is a complicated task.
"First of all, concerning the consolidation of supervisory functions in a single body… This is complicated, although, at first sight, reasonable … Firstly, this is such a specific sphere of activity … that switching [functions] is simply dangerous. Secondly, this will not be relevant to our international commitments," Putin said at the meeting of the Council for Civil Society and Human Rights.
Putin added that First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Kiriyenko told him that it was impossible to switch supervision of the nuclear area.
The annual meeting of the Council is devoted to revising the work carried out over the past year and discussing plans for 2017, as well to debating the issues related to migrant policy, prevention of juvenile crimes and protection of citizens’ environmental rights among other issues.
