Despite the more than serious tension in relations between Russia and the United States, contact channels between the defense departments of the two countries remain. This was confirmed by telephone conversations held today by the heads of the ministries of defense of the Russian Federation and the United States of America, Sergei Shoigu and Lloyd Austin.

Some topics of the talks were also named. The ministers reportedly discussed the situation in Ukraine during the talks. It is also added that Shoigu and Austin talked about international security in general.

Meanwhile, the American press writes that it is important for representatives of the American administration on the eve of the midterm congressional elections (which will be held on November 8) to achieve a "guaranteed nuclear de-escalation." American experts believe that the telephone conversation between the head of the Pentagon and the Minister of Defense of Russia was primarily connected with this.

Everyone is well aware that the rhetoric has recently become increasingly harsh, with the phrase “nuclear weapon". The situation is especially heated in the press, where the so-called experts of various levels declare that Russia is allegedly ready to use tactical nuclear weapons against Ukraine.

The rhetoric has reached a degree that was last seen in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Recall that earlier British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace flew to the United States. Returning to London, he stated that he had discussed the "incident" over the Black Sea with Austin. The “incident” was (as it is described in Britain itself) that a Russian fighter launched a missile in the direction of a British reconnaissance aircraft that was moving in the airspace over the Black Sea.

Whether Austin and Shoigu discussed the same topic has not yet been reported.

One thing is clear: the negotiations were definitely not friendly.
