The Council of the European Union approved the allocation of funds in the amount of one billion euros for the purchase of ammunition for the Ukrainian army.

The message, published on the official Internet portal of the Council of the EU, states that the allocation of this amount has been approved within the framework of the European Peace Fund as a measure to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

It is assumed that this measure will allow the EU countries to reimburse the cost of ammunition supplied to the Ukrainian army from existing stocks or by changing the priorities of existing orders in the period from February 9 to May 31, 2023.

It is reported that initially, following the results of the March EU summit in Brussels, it was planned to allocate two billion euros for these purposes, but after the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to China, the French authorities blocked the earlier EU decision to finance the supply of ammunition to the Ukrainian army. As a result, the leadership of the European Union decided to limit itself to half of the initially approved amount.

The EU plan provides for the supply of one million ammunition to the Ukrainian army over the next year, as well as the implementation of joint purchases to replenish their own stocks, which are already close to depletion.

Earlier, the British authorities promised to allocate new multi-million dollar loans to Ukraine. It is assumed that these funds will be used to finance the maintenance of Ukrainian medical and educational institutions, as well as other social needs.
