The Russian President and the Greek Prime Minister discussed the Cyprus problem and the "unfriendly attitude of NATO" at the talks
Russian President's website
Putin:
And today our peoples are linked by friendship, as well as deep spiritual and cultural ties.
The discussion during the meeting between Putin and Mitsotakis was not limited to just mentioning the spiritual kinship of the Russian and Greek peoples.
The Russian President raised the issue of the activities of the NATO military bloc, which includes Greece. According to Vladimir Putin, the North Atlantic Alliance "is disposed towards Russia, to put it mildly, unfriendly."
The head of state pointed out that in recent years, even when relations between Moscow and the West were at their highest point, NATO continued to push its infrastructure eastward, expanding at the expense of more and more countries.
During a joint press conference, Putin noted that during the talks with the Greek Prime Minister, issues of the international agenda were discussed, including Russia's relations with the European Union, the situation in the Balkans, as well as in the eastern Mediterranean. In particular, they touched upon the topic of the Cyprus problem, which, as you know, is connected with the fact that the island is divided into two parts, one of which is Northern Cyprus, which is actually controlled by Turkey.
The Russian President noted that Moscow supports the earlier decision of the UN Security Council on the formation in Cyprus of a bicommunal federation with a single legal personality status and sovereignty. Recall that the administration of Northern Cyprus, supported by Ankara, does not see this part of the island as part of a single Cypriot state.
