Breitbart mocks Clinton speech
Hillary Clinton went after Breitbart in her speech Thursday afternoon, and the conservative news outlet, true to form, came right back at her.
During her speech, the outlet tweeted a heavily Photoshopped picture of Clinton, with a tinfoil hat on her head and the caption: “MUH PUTIN IS BEHIND IT ALL.”
Breitbart has taken on a visible role in the campaign since Republican nominee Donald Trump hired Stephen Bannon, chairman of Breitbart News, as his campaign's chief executive.
The tweet's reference to Russian President Vladimir Putin comes after Clinton and other Democrats tied Trump and his campaign staff to Putin.
"Trump himself heaps praise on Putin and embraces pro-Russian policies," Clinton said in her speech in Reno, Nevada. "He talks casually of abandoning our NATO allies, recognizing Russia’s annexation of Crimea, and of giving the Kremlin a free hand in Eastern Europe more generally."
Clinton also slammed Trump for choosing Bannon to run his campaign.
“Bannon has nasty things to say about pretty much everyone,” she said.
She added, “The de facto merger between Breitbart and the Trump campaign represents a landmark achievement for the 'alt-right.' A fringe element has effectively taken over the Republican Party.”
