Hacked: Clinton said Saudis responsible for exporting 'extreme ideology'

 

Hillary Clinton said Saudi Arabia was responsible for "more extreme ideology" than any other country in the world, according to documents purportedly obtained from her campaign chairman's inbox.

Clinton allegedly made the statement during a closed-door speech to the Jewish United Fund in Chicago. "The Saudis have exported more extreme ideology than any other place on Earth over the course of the last 30 years," Clinton said during the Oct. 28, 2013, appearance.

The former secretary of state made the observation in the context of noting Saudi opposition to the Muslim brotherhood, which she said was "ironic" in light of the country's support for Islamic extremists.

Clinton has been under fire for accepting donations from the Saudi regime and affiliated entities. The country's government contributed between $10 million-$25 million to the Clinton family's philanthropic Clinton Foundation as of June 2016, donor records reveal. Another group called "Friends of Saudi Arabia," which was co-founded by a Saudi prince, contributed between $1 million-$5 million.

 

The transcript of the speech was included in a trove of emails allegedly obtained from the personal inbox of Clinton's campaign chairman, John Podesta, and released Friday by WikiLeaks.

The Clinton campaign on Friday accused WikiLeaks and founder Julian Assange of obtaining the messages by hacking Podesta, and maintained that Clinton would not release her own transcripts of speeches the website released. "We are not going to confirm the authenticity of stolen documents released by Julian Assange who has made no secret of his desire to damage Hillary Clinton," the campaign said in a statement.

Clinton has come under fire for refusing to release the transcripts of speeches she delivered following her tenure as secretary of state, for which she received six-figure compensation. Clinton received $400,000 for the speech to the Jewish United Fund.
