Reports of a secret audit that exposed Pentagon’s bloated bureaucracy caught on Saturday the eye of US President-elect Donald Trump, who previously vowed to end budget gimmicks.
The Washington Post said Pentagon officials had buried the 2015 audit that identified $125 billion in wasteful spending after the bottom line figure turned out to be huge. The outlet said this could be of interest to Trump.
"A very interesting read. Unfortunately, so much is true," Trump tweeted on Saturday, just days after he pledged to ask for the elimination of the defense sequester in his first budget report to Congress, due early next year.
The secret Department of Defense audit has prompted calls for an inquiry in the US House of Representatives, according to a letter released Friday by congressmen Jackie Speier and Mark DeSaulnier.
