‘US and clients don’t feel safe in Middle East because they’re despised,’ says Iranian FM
Zarif wrote on Twitter Tuesday: “If US and clients don’t feel safe, it’s because they’re despised by the people of the region - blaming Iran won’t reverse that,” along with a series of screenshots from articles about the US deploying a carrier strike group and a bomber task force to the region.
It’s not the first time Zarif has taken aim at the so-called “B-Team,” which includes National Security Advisor John Bolton, and Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, who he says are trying to “lure President Trump into a confrontation that he doesn’t want.”
The scathing tweet comes amid a heated war of words between Washington and Tehran. On Sunday, Bolton announcedthat the USS ‘Abraham Lincoln’ Carrier Strike Group and a bomber task force would soon arrive in “the US Central Command region to send a clear and unmistakable message to the Iranian regime.” As Zarif noted in his tweet, the deployment was only recently announced but it actually took place last month.
